ACTIVITY IDEAS:
Place all 12 Animal Walk™ HotSpots™ throughout the gym and group several students at each
station. Instruct students to imitate the animal walk at their station and then move onto the next
station after a predetermined amount of time. You may wish to increase the duration of time
students spend imitating each animal movement as they rotate from station to station. By doing
so, it will increase the amount of effort on the part of the student. Monitor and assist students as
they attempt to refine the animal movement and sounds.
Bear
Description: Walk bent over on all fours. Move right hand and right foot, then left hand and left foot.
Chicken
Description: In a squatting position, grab both heels and waddle.
Crab
Description: Get into a position where you are on your hands and feet with your stomach facing
the ceiling. Walk sideways only.
Lame Dog
Description: Walk on any three of your hands and feet keeping the fourth hand or foot in the air at

Elephant
Description: Move heavily while swinging head back and forth. Place arms and hands together
and raise up to the head to form a trunk to swing back and forth as well.
Frog
Description: Squat down with your feet apart. Straighten your arms, put your hands on the floor in
front of you and transfer your weight to them. Make sure your knees are outside your arms - that is,
your arms are straight on the ground between your knees and your weight is on them. Extend the
legs in a quick motion to propel body.
Giraffe
Description: Extend your arms straight up next to your ears and hook your thumbs together to
form a giraffe head. Teacher might have to demonstrate this particular aspect. The thumbs should
hook underneath the hands, which are palms down and bent forward. Keeping your legs straight,
walk around on your tiptoes to achieve maximum height. Slowly bend forward and 'drink' with the
giraffe head. Keep in mind that the legs must stay straight and the arms are always alongside the
ears. A real giraffe reaches low heights by spreading its legs apart
Gorilla
Description: Bend the knees and carry the trunk forward. Let the arms hang at the sides. Touch
the fingers to the ground while walking.
Inchworm
Description: Begin by laying flat on your stomach, hands extended past your head. Start walking
(legs straight) with your feet keeping your hands on the ground. Once your feet are touching your
hands or until you've gone as far as possible, begin walking back down to the ground with your
hands.
Kangaroo
Description: In a squatting position, jump forward fully extending your body in the air. Land in a
squatting position.
Lizard
Description: Keeping your chest as close to the floor as possible and elbows high, move forward
using opposite hand and foot.
Walrus
Description: Begin in a raised prone position. (Stomach towards the floor, feet pointing out, arms
pushing your upper body off the floor) Pike to get your feet closer and move your hands forward to
reposition yourself.
